Given the subject of gender is so popular nowadays (I wonder why?) this thought came to me.
My immediate "knee jerk reaction" to including women in a draft ... without thinking is to answer yes!
So now I will suffer the consequences of my hasty decision making full well knowing that not being decisive is far worse and that 50% of decisions are right and 50% are wrong on average.
So if you are batting 50% or higher you are not doing badly.
The ranked popularity of my thoughts is normally in the sewer when measured by newsvine leader board standards. Although I convince myself that attests to the purity of my ideas.
I hold steady at below 100 on the leader-board ranking page and only broke into the 25 once when I first joined newsvine. I am admittedly toxic at times thou not contrived to be so.
I have come to value those friends I have made for their patience, bravery and support - even when I test the extremes of their own beliefs and beyond.
In other words my newsvine friends are (in my opinion) very intelligent and liberal or progressive on average.
I suppose that intelligence gives some credence to the oft heard complaint from the right that liberals and progressives are intellectual snobs.
Yet conservatives are just as intelligent. The value systems of progressives and conservatives however are another story.
I have long thought that being against war or sexism, or for a women's choice, or conservation, or separation of church and state are not exclusively progressive values.
Nor is balancing budgets, fiscal restraint and the belief in the second amendment restricted to only conservatives.
It is the extremes of both schools of political thoughts that tear us apart. The two party political system is a money making business and an industry that many work in ....
There are a growing number of Americans in the middle as should be the case.
Okay ..... back to the header.
Their are approximately 50% men and 50% on this planet.
As for gender preferences that is less ascertainable as it is not a physical characteristic.
Anyways let's just say there are both manly women and womenly men who serve well in OUR armed forces.
It is a disgrace to OUR nation that in 2012 this is still debatable.
Especially since there are plenty of women who can kick a man's ass .... including house wife's who may take martial arts courses.
At the same time I would guess many more women would seek to avoid war .... having no hair on their chests to beat nor testosterone in their loins.
That is a good thing ....
This article however is not a plug for test tube babies. I beleive in nature and the natural forces of nature including reproduction.
I think humans like Santorum however stifle our natural instincts - and implicitly demean women.
Would Santorum some day advocate folical counts as a determining factor as to who can reproduce with another human; so as to prevent the genetic reinforcement of cross gender propagation?
A clear case of the confrontation of science and evolution with creationism and myth!
it's a subject we can have some fun with ... but let us get serious for a moment.
From time to time I make statements that I will repeat - as much to reinforce and recertify my own beleifs as to get others to question theirs.
On various subjects these repetitive statements I make are as follows, in no particular order of signficance:
- All humans are created equal.
- America is not broke but morally bankrupt
- Humans are subordinate to nature.
- Humans are mammals
- Humans are mortal
- All life is equally important to the preservation of each species on earth including humans.
- Humans belong at the top of our endangered species list
- Marx was brilliant
- Most humans do not know or understand Marx's views on economics
- Capitalism has no exit plan
- OUR President
- When profits displace needs it is equivalent to murder (several variations of this)
- Financial crimes aka white collar criminals murder humans yet are protected by the absence of laws acknowledging this fact
- Calculated neglect is a murder weapon ... (or words to that effect)
- NATURE is OUR daddy!
This list is not exhaustive. But there are likely just a few more I've forgotten and I've omitted.
My assertion is that if women were able to be drafted ... there would be no more wars.
Think about it.
