Religion is something that is imposed upon many of us by our parents from birth if at all - in fact many children are raised without religion. I was brought up a Catholic by parents who were protestant and catholic. Mom won.
Religion is often about our parents personal beliefs - anyone can start a religion (ask the Mormons) and each of us may customize our religion to suit ourselves.
In America the media is free to lie yet for many religious individuals lying is a sin. And for many lying is a religion!
Religion is like a clean shirt you put on before going out to dine in public.
Socially in public we will often refer to ourselves as being of this or that religion while in truth not having practiced that religion for decades.
Being religious is politically correct, and therefor politicians without exception are religious. Some more so than others depending on emphasis and the constituency they wish to appeal too.
We are experiencing this in the GOTP Presidential primaries .... where candidates have been falling over one another to declare their allegiance and their beliefs while at times apologizing or even confessing their sins.
There is no war against religion but there is a war against secularism and FOR religion. Ask Romney.
It seems the Catholic church is seeking the cooperation of the state to prevent sin as defined by the Church. Laws that are based on science and designed to protect women are said to be usurping the Church's right to prevent sin by denying contraception to those who may need it.
In truth it is about money and not sin.
We all know that religion is a losing battle since not only do 100% of humans sin ... but a large percentage of religious leaders sin as well.
Why then is religion relevant at all?
Religion defines us and conveniently that definition can be varied by religious leaders. Santorum for example is a religious leader - he may not have a title or a religious office - but he assumes the role of a preacher recruiting followers.
Do we pray to him, for him or with him? But also do we vote for or against him?
What does religion have to do with the price of gasoline?
Actually a lot - since at the root of human discord there is always religious strife - in particular the middle east is rift with religious conflicts.
Gasoline prices are the manifestation of religion differences - and prayers will not help.
In America the GOTP is using religion to frak the people ...... it is a typical GOTP social strategy not always restricted to religion and more often employed when it comes to race, nationality, education, age, gender and wealth.
There are many who beleive in no religion and in fact the constitution specifically protects the right s of individuals from having religion imposed upon them.
Yet somehow this topic has been turned on its head and the majority of Americans are being coerced into arging with one another over their individual beliefs.
Romney has accused OUR President of creating a new religion called secularism implying that those who do not have a religion are not allowed to believe as they might in whatever they wish.
As was the case with gender until the recent attacks on women's rights, religion has been dissolving into the individuals personal space within which it should dwell - shared by those who believe alike yet not imposed on those who have their own beliefs.
Religion by law and by it's very nature cannot be imposed upon the public.
Yet the GOTP is doing that everyday ... both implicitly and overtly.
Religion does not prevent sin but thrives upon it ..... without the placating powers of religion the mass of humanity would have uprisen a thousand times more over the course of human history, and even so as it is religious strife is common place as religious leaders seek to enforce their will upon their followers and retain them as believers.
Capitalism is a religion as is the stock market. Those who worship money fight to enforce the power of their wealth upon the masses.
Attached to every dollar is the belief of those who rule us - who require us to depend on jobs and who carefully divide natures resources amongst themselves with scraps allocated for billions of humans on the planet earth.
Without religion their would be no other evil other than that which is imposed upon humanity by those whom possess wealth and power.
The global plutocracy is comprised of the planets wealthiest most powerful human beings who jointly have imposed their will upon all of humanity.
Note: Religion and presidential politics has been inextricably woven into 2012 current events as it suits the purpose of political campaign donors and the profit goals of the corporate owned, sponsored and managed media.
