Something someone close to me often says about Santorum is that they can't stand him.

Okay I say, but why?

"His religious views about women and morality and how people should live."

Okay ... I suppose we can just call that social issues.

New Cardinal Dolan has recently helped that a bit, and now that Dolan a new vatican poster boy for the Pope as well as the Catholic Church's version of Governor Christy has his cap ... can we expect him to flex even more theological muscle in the political arena.

Meanwhile Santorum has doubled down on his own personal Holy War's with everyone sensing an opportunity to defeat Romney by claiming God is on his side and accusing the President of not running OUR nation according to the bible.

Santorum however has also chosen to draw his sword against environmentalists, protestants, women and earth itself as well as OUR President.

To be frank Santorum is no David and he is vastly outnumbered by those less pure than he sees himself to be. There is no Goliath for him to slay but there are a majority of unholy Americans who he says are sinners including women, students, elderly and the middle class workers who support OUR President, are pro-choice and sinners and disbelievers!

Drawing battle lines with OUR President and most Americans on religious issues in these demanding times is not a very good idea.

OUR President is occupied watching Iranian warships entering the straits as well as the escalating violence in Syria and at the same time still fighting to revive OUR economy. Europe is still a storm on the horizon and to be honest there is always turbulence worldwide as far as we can see!

AND how far do Santorum and the GOTP see?

From the debates, not very far.

Time to muzzle the religious once again, as was done so effectively in the 18th century.

    You are correct.

I voted for him, and despite my disappointments in him, I will vote for him again. But I do have numerous criticisms of him, and am not at all shy about expressing them.

The People must be the ultimate 'checks and balances.'

I read the article twice and the poll questions (didn't vote as the questions seemed unrelated to the article)

I will need to think about the article content a little while and will comment later. I am trying to understand why you felt it necessary to denigrate a Cardinal as part of your political commentary. I will be back later

After 38 votes, the poll results are interesting = wealth, yes and yes are the clear leaders so far.

I, too, am surprised at the poll results. The Money Gods of Wall Street have perpetrated the illusion of wealth, very well. Of course, when the stock market "looks good" only the person selling that day is actually getting the gains. If everybody tried to get their money at the same time, it would only be seconds and you would end up like you did at Christmas trying to buy the 200 dollar laptop. Santorum should have elected to be a eunuch, so he could still sing in the Boy's Choir, instead of reminding us why Neanderthals were white.

A note to the mathematically challenged: If you remove the "definitely not" option from your poll, the results you're looking for* would be there. Actually, they're already there (except for the first question); they're just not as visually obvious as you obviously require. (This is based on the current results of 196 respondents.)

*If you're looking for a specific result, then you're not really polling; you're fishing. Plus, it's not a scientific poll in the first place, so don't sweat it.

        LOL.

Someone has skewed the poll and I agree with truth that the poll is not scientific nor should it influence how we each think. I have stated before that my polls are for my edification and for me to understand the conventional wisdom. See Gallup if you want results tailored to your beliefs ;-) and bring a large check with you. ;-)

I can safely say that the majority voted pro nature .... and pro Obama which is what you might expect on newsvine .... minus the usual contrariness and extremists as well as the perp who trolled the polls ;-)

Common sense and decency is the best forecast of a poll ... PLUS as was the case in the 2004 election; when a result doesn't make sense there has been fowl play! ;-)

I can't make any valid difference between Nature and wealth in terms of real "wealth" is.

Its just such a no-brainer that the health of the planet equals success or failure for ANY ECONOMIC SPHERE.

And I really can't understand how any person could not make that connect.

ALL ECONOMY HAS THE PHYSICAL PLANET AS IT'S FOUNDATION.

Any economic philosophy which does not make this the foundational meme is DOOMED to failure.

Basura. The President's job is to " preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against threats both foreign and domestic, such as you religious fundamentalists who seem to believe that your personal fairy tales should be the law of the land.

I'm sick of trying to be reasonable with you folks who will happily ram your mythologies down the throats - or vaginas - of people of other beliefs as you've been doing for centuries. But now that people are pushing back, oh the poor, poor persecuted religious, can't get your own way and be acknowledged as the Supreme Truth.

Too damn bad. You need to learn how to share.

Included with the Constitution is all of the Supreme Court decisions regarding it. So you'd have to look to Roe v. Wade for the relevant Constitutional address of abortion.

Abortion is based in the 14th Amendment's right to privacy clause. You like your right to privacy? Like the fact that when you go to the doctor, what is said is between you and the doctor? Well.. so does everyone else. Abortion is a decision between a woman and her doctor (and anyone SHE chooses to include in that decision.)

I think it hypocritical for the Cardinal or the Pope to enter into a conversation about sex,(that involves consenting adults) because when the opportunity presented itself during times where we had Priests drooling at the mouth for young innocent boys, the best they could give us was: Humma, Humma, Humma, and eventually transfer the Priest to another Parish. BTW there were great sums of monies exchanged to sooth the mental anguish so to speak.

In the future Santorum would be wise to remember God's Law as given to Moses was titled The Ten Commandments........Additionally The Pope should not forget the first one; "Thou shall have no other God before me, because I am a jealous God"

Who the hell does he think he is that he can tell ME what the right or wrong choices will be for my life?

Who the hell does he think he is that he can damn ME to fire and brimstone unless I live MY life his way and on his terms?

I should apologize for being on a rant this morning, but I won't. It's a very slow night at work.

I enjoyed the Bachmann and Palin era-they were always good for a laugh. And I of all people always value laughter, from whatever the source.

But this hate-filled man, this Da Saint, is no laughing matter. He portends to be judge, jury and executioner for the choices, the very private, personal choices I have made and will continue to make for MY life. And, I owe him, nor anyone else any defense for my choices.

A while back, all one heard was "dysfunctional" this and "dysfunctional" that, especially in relation to families. But..............just because my family, my life, my values are different from yours does not mean it is "dysfunctional." It fits me. Each person has to make their own choices and decisions for their life as best they can. And if the wrong one is made, will anyone else have to pay the cost or be responsible? Nope.

I have a very low tolerance for those sanctimonious idiots that stroke me with "you should do this," or, "you should have done that," when they have no clue about my life and who/what I am.

If God or any other Superior Being had wanted Da Saint to live my life, they would have given it to him. But.............since they gave it to me, I will muddle through to the best of my abilities and would appreciate the respect from others to just leave me and my life alone.

          AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I have opined repeatedly, religion and politics are two different animals and never the twain should meet. I find it quite odd that Jesus himself (if one happens to believe) acknowledged that " What is Cesar's render to Cesar and to God what is his" (or to that effect).

I grow tired of those who peddle their version of how all should live their lives and what one should believe, I do not foist my beliefs on others and in return would ask the same from them. If I choose to live in a Theocracy then I can move to Iran, and we all can see how that is working.

Actually, there are many who find comfort through religion (I do not happen to be one of them) and I would not deny them that, I would just prefer they keep it to themselves as do I. But man has turned it into another control mechanism and distorted its over all intent.

I can't think of a reason that churches shouldn't be required to pay taxes. They are inserting themselves in politics like never before. I am SICK of hearing who is and isn't a Christian. I don't care. We are not supposed to be a Theocracy, but since there is a litmus test....I fear we are quickly becoming one. Take a look at the Theocracies around the world. Is that how we want to live? We are on a slippery slope. Virginia now is forcing rape by vaginal ultrasound on any woman who will seek an abortion. What next?

Wealthy billionaires like the Kochs have indulged in manipulation of the oil markets by speculating, this has been covered by all kinds of media sources. The outside "free market" capitalists of the corporate world have taken their wealth and imposed a bad situation for America by deliberately pushing gas prices up so they can cash in. This has nothing to do with the President. This is their political game playing and the billionaires don't care that the American people suffer under high prices.

I believe that our justice department and OUR President may have a surprise in store for the oil price manipulators.

Of the gasoline question - the problem isn't Obama. It lies in two areas.

First is the greed of the oil companies (along w/ the tax rebates and other governmental subsidies to this rapacious goup of bastards.) The 2nd is the American people, (I'm one who is guilty) who own SUV gas guzzlers. For me it is a necessity since I transport large equipment. However, how many own large trucks etc as a status symbol as opposed to necessity? My take, way too many.

I say, open up the strategic reserve. I say, stop selling our oil on the open market. Any new sources in the US should be used as our own since we pay for it thru subsidies and in the cleaning up of their messes (such as the gulf and Alaska).

It is interesting how Americans are nervous of a Santorum presidency, when they should be actually terrified and screaming through the streets of a Romney administration. Santorum might be able to somewhat seperate church and state, but it will be impossible for Romney to do so. Mormonism is not just a religion it is your way of life. Every decision you make is directly related to "The Church" and how "the prophet", yes a "modern-day" prophet sees things. Take it from a lifelong Mormon and return missionary. Be afraid be very afraid. If I were Republican I would vote for Obama and every Democratic representative running for office. Yikes!

poly - I have to admit not personally knowing much about the Mormon religion ... but I'm beginning to think we all should learn a lot more fast .... based on your comment.

Seems to me based on the Salt Lake City bail out, and Huntsman and Romney's tax returns that the Mormon establishment is politically, very powerful and rich. Just like the Catholic establishment.

Since when has the President of the United States been in control of gas prices or the market speculation on Wall Street?

exactly jburns ...... however I think the justice department has it's eyes on the speculators less they become political manipulators ... there may be some actions the President can take as well ....

maybe pull a Donald Trump and blow Iran out of the water and take their oil! ;-)

          just kidding!

Does Ricky not get that to disregard nature is to disregard the God who made it? When I honor nautre I am thinking of God and thanking Him for His gifts to us. Sorry, not all worship is held in a church.
