When you sit watching the politicians on CNN or MSNBC or FOX - a few interesting observations can be made.
On FOX for example blond women are prevalent as well as lowered cleft lines and more leg.
Although it doesn't really matter you might wonder about the sexual preferences of some of the talking heads on other channels and how it affects the punditry.
While on the FOX channel you don't think about sexual preference but underlying motives. Although O'Reilly and Beck seem to make a nice couple and with Palin perhaps a cute threesome.
On CNN mostly brunettes but otherwise you get a gut feeling that opinions shouldn't always be portrayed so evenly - the amount of air time the truth gets shouldn't be equal to the amount of time that lies get. Yet CNN goes out of it's way to give falsehoods equal time.
BUT who in the media has the guts to defend the truth at the expense of ratings? You will never hear about how many children are dieing everyday in the world. Viewers don't like the truth - the truth really does hurt.
And on all three cable news networks ALL of the people we listen to are wealthy. Now there's nothing wrong with being wealthy - and conventional wisdom? says the press is biased in favor of liberals who are supposed to be for working class Americans. But overall the media cuts the truth tellers exactly in half and the face time is shared equally with the liars.
Working class Americans make up 95% of the viewing population - so like the media it should be no surprise that Americans are divided right down the middle when it comes to politics and truth and lies. The holy grail of politics - the two party system would have it no other way. Divide and conquer.
How else could each of us avoid the truth when it's convenient to do so? - which is on average half the time. We can be a republican or a democrat or even an independent. We can choose truth, lies or remain incognito.
On cable you will never see or hear analogies being drawn between working class republicans and working class democrats.
The truth is that the very people who fight each other tooth and nail are entertaining viewers but are mostly on the same side!
Who then creates this division? My theories include white skin, conventional wisdom and Pavlov.
Our upbringing has a profound influence on how we think and act. The color of our skin and the quality of our parents leave an indelible footprint. Yes there are anomalies - there will always be a Barack Obama to hold forth a beacon of hope. Symbolism if without the support of all of the working class.
But for every truth teller like our President there are a million liars. As humans we have been conditioned when young to react rather then think.
Commercials are an excellent example of Pavlov redux. It's insane to think sex should determine the best vehicle to drive or beer to imbibe upon - yet it does. Biology and reproduction have been magically transformed into mythology and seduction.
If we could only be like Spock - logical, factual, rational and reasoned.
